Earl Grey (1764-1845) was prime minister to King Williams IV of England in the early 19th century. Legend tells us that a Chinese Mandarin delivered a tea flavored with bergamot oil to the Duke of Earl in order to influence trade relations after the Duke had visited China in the 1800's.
