Let's go back to the Roaring 1920's, when Chock founder William Black started selling fresh roasted almonds, cashews and peanuts from a small retail storefront in New York City's theatre district. The Great Depression was upon us and Broadway show attendance was slowing. William Black's premium nut shop was struggling to stay open and not face bankruptcy.
In an effort to save his business, Mr. Black started roasting and blending high quality coffee beans imported from all over the world. New York City quickly fell in love with Mr. Black's small-batched, fresh roasted coffee being served from his little coffee shop known as Chock full o'Nuts.
